Birthday Look

My Birthday was on May 14th. Although is was a relaxed birthday I wanted to be a bit dramatic with the makeup. In this post I will go into detail on what I used to create this look!

I started off by lightly airbrushing my face. I then filled in my brows using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Medium Ash then applying MAC copperplate over that.

Next I moved onto the eyeshadow. I used the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and Mary Kay's Cream Eye Color in Apricot twist (I received it from Influenster to test out.

I started by applying Limit (1) as a transition color and blending Nooner (2) into the outer corner to add definition. Then I took Blackheart (3) and started slowly adding it to the out third of my eyelid; blending it out and up. I applied MK's Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist to the rest of my lid; using Mugshot (4) and Trick (5) to blend it into Blackheart. On the lower lashline I applied a little bit of Blackheart (6) and blended it out with Liar (7.) Next I used Strange (8,9) as a brow bone and inner corner highlight. To finish the eye look I used MK Gel Eyeliner and put on a coat of my L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara to both top and bottom lashes. Finally, I applied Ardell's Demi Wispies and curled my lashes to make them blend together.

On my cheeks I applied my MK Shy Blush and contoured my cheeks and nose using MK's Bronzing Powder. On my lips I used Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipstick in Sugared Almond.

Mary Kay Review

When we hear someone say "Mary Kay" we usually think of or mothers inviting strange women into our home and them sitting there for hours while apply various shades of lip gunk and eye powders. Don't lie, you know that is what you thought when you were 4 years old. Well, Mary Kay is now on point when it comes to current trends. I created this look using the Mary Kay Glam Box that I received from Influenster.
For this look I started by applying my Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream in 010 Light and my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 115. Then I contoured my nose and cheeks using the Mary Kay Bronzing Powder in Light-Medium. I also applied the Mary Kay Mineral Cheek Color in Shy Blush on my cheeks.

I moved onto eyes next; applying Mary Kay Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist to my lids and blending it out with Urban Decay's Half Baked Eyeshadow and applied UD's Tease in the crease to add definition. I used Mary Kay's Gel Eyeliner in Jet Black on my upper lashline to add definition to my eyelashes. Then I used Mary Kay's Lash Love mascara in I ♥ Black to top it all off.

To finish the look I applied ELF's Matte Lip Color in Natural then powdered my face with Mary Kay's Translucent Loose Powder.

Now lets go into detail on all the Mary Kay Products I received.

The first things in the box were two brushes. A powder brush and a cream eyeshadow/concealer brush. The powder brush was soft and picked up powder nicely. The concealer brush didn't work well for cream products. It didn't pick up the product as much as I hoped it would. It did work well for powdered eyeshadows though.

The next thing I saw was the Mary Kay Cream Eyeshadow in Apricot Twist. The packing was plastic although at first glance it looked like glass. It was sturdy but easy to open. The eyeshadow itself was easy to apply, very pigmented and lasted 5 hours without noticeably fading and creasing. The color is a peachy gold with a shimmer to it.

The next product in the box was the Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner that came with an expandable brush. The brush was easy to use and is great for travel; as it closes so you don't get everything in your makeup bag covered in eyeliner. The gel eyeliner is in a glass container. The eyeliner itself is very pigmented, applied smoothly and lasted about 7.5 hours before it started smudging and transferring.

Next up was the Mary Kay Translucent loose powder. This powder is amazing! I use it to set my makeup everyday (that I wear foundation, BB cream, concealer, etc.) and it has not failed me. You need a very little to be shine free 9+ hours. In my photo earlier I had been wearing it for 6 hours. I have combination oily skin with a few dry spots. This powder did not cling to my dry spots. It also looks great even when flash is used!

Next are the cheek products! There was a bronzing powder and a mineral cheek color. The Mary Kay Bronzing powder is easy to apply and blendable. But, be aware if you are super pale like me only apply a very small amount as it is very pigmented. It has a slight golden shimmer. It gives an nice glowly look without making you look sparkly or shiny!

The Mary Kay Mineral cheek color in Shy Blush was pigmented but not as blendable as I had hoped. I had to use my foundation brush with a little bit of product on it to blend it out. It is a pink blush with a slight peachy tone to it. The website describes it as a Semi-Matte color but in my opinion it has a fair amount of a golden/peach shimmer to it.

The second to last product in the box was the Mary Kay Lash Love mascara in I ♥ Black. I have a love/hate relationship with this mascara. I love it because it is extremely black and it stays put without smudging. I hate it because the formula is very wet but the brush is stiff with bristles that are spaced far apart. That means you get left with a lot of product on the lashes with nothing to separate the lashes. I recommend this for bottom lashes or to use a disposable mascara want if you are going to use it on the top lashes.

The final product in my Mary Kay Influenster Glam Box was the NouriShine Lip Gloss in Mango Tango. At first glance I said "heck no! I could never pull this color off." In the tube it looks like a sparkly tomato red/orange color. But, when applied it is a nice peach tone with a slight sparkle and a nice amount of shine. It is a thick lip gloss it was not sticky and it applies smoothly to the lips.

Overall this box was amazing! I really do think Mary Kay products are high quality and they overall are great. I recommend checking out their website and trying at least one thing. I know I am going to try a few of their mineral eyeshadows and their medium coverage foundation. I want to thank Influenster for giving me the opportunity to review these product.
